CEANN Creige Camogs added another piece of silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet recently after they defeated Liverpool Wolfetones in the Intermediate League Final in Wigton, Cumbria.
Having faced Liverpool earlier in the league, the players knew it would be no easy battle. Ceann Creige have had their most successful season yet with only one loss in comparison to their previous season, which proved challenging.
With a strong sun, the game got underway with Liverpool drawing first blood with a quick point at the start of the game.
Strong performances in the middle of the field from Nicole Nugent and Anna Clarke saw Glasgow come back into the game soon after, however.
The game was fast-paced with Liverpool securing a goal lobbed over the keeper.
However it was Glasgow who took the lead heading into the second-half with a two point advantage.
With the breeze in the second-half, Glasgow opted for quick successive points.
Liverpool retaliated with a free that dropped into the box and a deflection off of a Wolfetones stick saw a third goal for the Liverpool Camogs.
Despite Eimear Gavan’s attempts on goal at the other end of the pitch, Liverpool’s keeper Nuala Petticrew pulled off some impressive saves to keep Glasgow to two goals—one from Nugent and the other from Gavan.
A quick turnover saw Liverpool score another goal in the last five minutes of the second-half, to level the score between the two sides.
With just 11 seconds to go, Nugent was fouled in the middle of the pitch. Steadying herself for the last puck of the game, she slotted the ball over the bar and rightfully earned herself Player of the Match, securing the win for Glasgow by a scoreline of 2-08 to 3-04.
