THERE was a big day in the calendar recently for Underage Ladies Gaelic Football as the All-Britain Championship came to Scotland for the first time.
Chosen LGFA county footballers of all clubs in each county in Britain—such as Lancashire, Yorkshire, London, Hertfordshire and so on—headed to St Ambrose Gaelic Ground in Coatbridge for the competition.
The Scotland team comprises girls aged 14-18—from Coatbridge Davitts, Tír Conaill Harps and Dunedin Óg—that have been playing Gaelic Football since Primary 6, with the Coatbridge contingent either currently attending from one of the town’s three local high schools, or who recently left school for university. The Coatbridge girls also originate from the six local primary schools.
The local girls that represented Scotland on the day were: Alexandra McLaughlin, Lucia Marcuccili, Katie McParland, Katie Hunter, Grace Tighe, Lara Jo Tuite, Danielle Martin, Charlotte Hughes, Florence Hagerty, Olivia Reilly, Maggie Moore, Millie Kennedy. Hannah Brady was unavailable while Summah Tobin, was unfortunately injured.
Scotland gave a great showing on the day finishing fourth, while London taking the top prize at the tournament.
Gratitude was expressed to several people that helped make the tournament possible, particularly Councillor Michael McPake, Morag Davidson at North Lanarkshire Leisure and James McParland and Anton Heffron at St Ambrose High School.
